Today’s challenge is to write a story about a gap, a creative gap, and how you overcame the gap that came between the original idea and the real thing. Luckily, as I have read a few days ago, the daily post is not an assignment, but rather an idea to get us writing.
Standing in the gap. To stand for someone in the gap. That is one of the most fantastic concepts there is. Standing in the gap is something I really experienced in this year, that other people stood in the gap for me. This year I really needed my friends to pray for me and what is wonderful, all I had to do was to send them a message: ‘Prayer support please’, and I knew that they filled up te gap! Precious!
When something bad happens to you, or when you experience bad times, you sometimes can’t pray or don’t know how to pray, or you pray but need friends that pray for you as well. Sometimes you feel that you pray, but you don’t ‘connect’ with God because of a lot of reasons. It feels that there is a gap between you and God.
It is then that you need your friends to fill up the gap. This is the time when we need our friends to pray for us so that their prayers fill u the gap. They say the words that we don’t have. They pray for something that we didn’t even think of. And this is one of the most important reasons why we have to pray for our friends, we have to stand in the gap for them as well! They need us!
But it is not only our friends that stand in the gap for us! One of my favourite verses in the Bible is Romans 8:26. Look here:
26 In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans.
Isn’t it WONDERFUL? The Holy Spirit takes my simple, childish prayer and makes it Godly. He changes my faulty words into something that is acceptable to God. He knows my heart so well and knows what I really mean.
But best of all, Jesus filled in the gap for us when He died on the cross and risen from the dead. What a blessing!
Remember to stand in the gap for someone today!
